  • my husband.

    a lazy, manipulative POS.

p.s. this post is here purely because of his request for it. never would i say such libelous things about the man i married.

  • i’m a little low on something interesting to blog about, so instead i will give you links to a couple of my favorite entries. i was going through my archives and i didn’t realize how much was in there! enjoy.

  • today’s featured question.

i never have any problems with the featured questions themselves (yes, half of them are severely lacking in intelligent thought). it’s the answers that always get me up on my soapbox. that is, if i actually owned such a thing.

today’s question is “What Charities or Non-Profit Organizations do you support?” really, it’s one of the better questions to be sure, but it’s the way people responded that really got me going.

first off, apparently most xangans took this question to mean, “who do you give money and/or goods to?” which, it’s great to donate time, money, and/or items to charities but it’s missing a piece of the puzzle. if you ask me, and i’m sure none of you can remember doing so, support means much more than donate to. it means to get involved, to advocate for, to build up, to volunteer for, and so on and so forth. really, i just like saying that. and so on and so forth. who doesn’t like saying that?

secondly, it got me thinking how incredibly self-centered we, as a culture, are. most people just want to shell out a couple of bucks now and then to a non-profit organization as a means of being charitable than actually go out into the world and make a difference. when God said to feed the hungry, i’m pretty sure he meant to actually get out there and give hungry people a meal or two or several. he didn’t mean to donate your old snowboard to United Way because your wife just bought you a new one for christmas. which, i just completely stole from Don Miller’s “Blue Like Jazz” (not the exact words, but it’s the same idea, so i give credit where it’s due).

and no, i’m not holier than thou. i wish i could tell you that i practice what i preach, i wish i could live a less selfish life and make a difference in someone else’s. our society is so consumer driven that we constantly save our money to buy the latest media, the flashiest cars, and the biggest houses. it’s not enough to have one car, we need to have four. our homes need at least 6500 sq. feet though only three people may live there. it’s saddening because if we take a look at all the other developing nations in the world, we can see that they don’t live even half as comfortably as we do. and we take all this for granted, thinking we actually need that surround sound system and gold toilet. well, i mean, i really need my gold toilet. i don’t think i could go to the bathroom without it.

EDIT: if you feel what i’m saying, can i get an amen? okay, i’ll settle for a recommend.

  • consumerism at its worst

this post is for fullmetalbunny’s everybody wins contest!

and also, it’s posting for the sake of posting. i want to be a good blogger and i think the only way to do so is just to continuously blog until your fingers are numb and bleeding. it doesn’t matter about quality over quantity. more is better! if i can’t think of anything humorous to write, i should just pick up a box of crackers and list off the ingredients! if i had a lousy day and i just want to relax, i should answer at least five featured questions in a row (with the same answer, no less). and if i’m really feeling low on creative juices, i should just blatantly plagiarize someone.

i’m not actually going to do any of those things, so i’m sorry if i got any of you all worked up. if it’s any consolation, i got myself all geared up too!
